Principal Clients
WPacFIN supports fishery-dependent data collections which contribute to national,
regional, and international fisheries science and management. WPacFIN’s primary
data users are fisheries scientists and managers in NOAA Fisheries'
science centers and
regional offices. Both require fishery-dependent data to fulfill their roles in
assessing, monitoring and managing fisheries in the US Pacific Islands Region (PIR)
the US Pacific Islands Region (PIR) sustainably in support of the NOAA Fisheries Mission.
WPacFIN’s primary research clients are fisheries scientists from PIFSC, other regions of NOAA Fisheries, and academic institutions. The data underpin scientific studies such as stock assessments which help determine how much can be harvested sustainably.
WPacFIN’s primary fisheries management clients include the Pacific Islands Regional Office (PIRO), the Western Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Council (the Council), and other Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs). Fisheries managers within these organizations determine and implement regulations for domestic and international fisheries in the Pacific. The Pacific Islands Region is comprised of American Samoa, Guam, Hawaii, the Northern Mariana Islands, and other U.S. Pacific islands.
